Dissolving Filler
THE TOPIC NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE TO TALK ABOUT!
The fillers used most often in Australia are Hyaluronic Acid based. This is a natural substance which is found in our bodies. It becomes depleted with age. Ofter a treatment with HA filler, over time, your body reabsorbs the product and it gradually disappears. HOWEVER…
Sometimes filler can be either placed incorrectly or can migrate. The most commonly seen migration of filler is usually seen with repetitive lip treatments.
The lips are a small delicate area and can only hold so much volume before the product seeps out into the surrounding area. Just google ‘filler migration”and you’ll see hundreds of photo’s of bad lips.
Some people “choose” this look… It is absolutely not my aesthetic, it looks unnatural. But, each to their own.
For those who don’t “choose” this look and either didn’t realize it was happening, or you have just gone OTT with everything… Help may be at hand.
Dissolving the HA required the use of it’s reversal agent; another medication that we inject directly into the filled area. It starts working immediately but can take a while for it to reabsorb completely. Sometimes multiple treatments may be required. It is, however, not for the feint of heart.
Bruising and swelling are to be expected and can last for days and the treatment itself can be quite painful.
There are specific criteria to be met before we dissolve. Some clinics will not dissolve other clinics work, so you may have to go back to the place that you had the filler in the first place. Always check with the clinic or injector.
My take home message is… be careful and realistic. Be honest with yourself.
Ask a close family member or friend, whose opinion you trust. Ask them if they think you’d benefit from even bigger lips.
This beautiful lady came to me to have her lips dissolved. She told me that she couldnt remember how much filler she had, but that it was multiple mls over the last 7 years! She took the brave leap to dissolve. 1. is as we started the process. 2. Is a couple of days later. 3. is the final filler-free natural result.
Her lips are now free from filler and she is very happy. We have agreed to wait another few months before we decide if a small amount of filler should be added back in for some natural looking fullness and hydration… without getting carried away this time!
