PDO Threads

What are PDO threads?
PDO Threads are made from a material called Polydioxanone which is an absorbable polymer that is flexible and durable. PDO Threads induce the production of collagen, creating a tightening effect for 6 to 12 months after your procedure.
The threads become a support structure for your face, allowing natural collagen production to take place, over time the PDO will be fully absorbed by the body.

After entering the skin, the threads activate collagen synthesis for a gradual skin tightening and ski rejuvenation effect. While they tighten, PDO threads do not significantly lift the skin. Effects of PDO – Newly developed fibrous connective tissue that merges with existing fibrous tissue. Tissue contraction by myofibroblast activity, increased capillary vessel size reduced fat layer thickness by fat cell denaturation.

What are the side effects and risks?
This treatment can be a bit painful, however we apply a generous amount of topical numbing cream to the area prior to starting. This can help “take the edge off”and make it more tolerable. There is a usually redness, swelling and a feeling of “tightness” in the area treated. This will all resolve quickly. Please note it is very likely that you will bruise after this treatment. The area treated can remain tender for up to a week post treatment. As with any invasive treatments there is a risk of infection. Rest assured I maintain I high lever of cleanliness and use aseptic technique whenever I am treating.

What do I need to do before my treatment?
To minimise the risk of bruising I ask that you avoid alcohol and smoking, at least for 2 days prior to your appointment and avoid any blood thinning medications such as neurofen, aspirin or fish oil a week prior to treatment (speak with your GP if you have been advised to take these kinds of medications to ensure it is safe for you to stop). If you have any infections or are taking any anti-biotics please reschedule your appointment until after this has all resolved.

Anything specific to do after my treatment?
Please try not to touch your face for the rest of the day. Avoid putting on moisturizers or makeup until the following day. Be gentle with your face for the next few days, especially if bruising is present. Try to sleep on your back for the first 3 nights. Facial treatments should be avoided for 3 weeks after your treatment. Dermal filler should be avoided 4 weeks prior to as post treatment.
